This summer in May I read Where The Crawdads Sing for my book club. The author; Delia Owens is an American zoologist and has mostly written memoirs in the past. Where the Crawdads Sing was Delia’s debut novel and topped the New York Times Fiction Best Sellers of 2019 for 44 non-consecutive weeks.
The book follows two timelines that intertwine, one describing the life of Kya in the marshes of North Carolina from 1951-1969, the second follows a murder investigation of local celebrity Chase Andrews.
I found my love for reading again during this time to spare (currently in quarantine) and I’m not gonna lie this is the first book that I picked up for almost a year now (I think). I bought this book right ahead since I heard a lot of amazing reviews and oh my, it didn’t disappoint. Now, if you’re a fan of murder mysteries with a touch of romance, then this is the right book for you.
Probably the most descriptive book I have ever read, a lot explains about the wildlife and looking her up (Delia Owens) that she is a zoologist/ wildlife scientist, which of course made so much sense! Delia’s incredible description of the marsh has bought the vision of the book to life and the character, which I immediately adore, Kya and her serious courage throughout her living on the North Carolina coast.
I can’t even express how fully satisfied I am at the ending of the novel. I would love to open it back to page one again if ever this will be adapted to a film.
Rating – 4.8/5
